Hello I am new to Upholstry sewing so forgive me if this question seems silly.

The salon bottom seat cushions are done in 2 section, a front 8" section and a back 16.5" section. It is stiched as 1 large piece but divided (?) With 2 seperate entry points / zippers (1 for the front piece and 1 for the back section).
What is the reason/ intended purpose for this technique? Its seems challenging to say the least. I plan on replacing w/ new foam, new everything so I can do it any way I want really, but if there's a performance/comfort reason that stands out perhaps I should attempt to recreate or is there a better way?! Help! Not sure that made sense so pictures included. Thanks!

It appears that both pieces of foam are the same thickness, in that case i think it's just a faux bolster and serves no real purpose. I would absolutely eliminate it and do a single piece. Foam is expensive, you can glue the foam together if it's in decent shape, it is common practice.

Awesome thank you! Curious about using the old foam. Does the foam have idk a shelf life? I mean does it have a point where it's just done and one wouldn't use it anymore? I mean short of it being compressed. When I touch it, it leaves behind a foam dandruff, little foam dust everywhere.
