Re: Beginner help! Boxing wrinkled

Great work. One thing you can do to eliminate the wrinkles entirely, it’s to make a pattern of your seat bottom. Cut the center out. So it’s about an inch ring plus your seam allowance. Sew it like you did the top.

Re: Breathing foam

It’s been about 10 years since I’ve done one, as I thought they were pointless in my area and not that great. So I’m digging back in my memories. But I felt we just the seat cushion foam out above the fan unit, and used a sew foam over it, so it couldn’t be felt while sitting. And that was thin enou...

I installed these back in the day and it wasn’t so much the foam we worried about as it was making sure the material that the seat cover was made out of, was perforated.

It depends on the vehicle. There are companies that specialize in certain makes, models, and years. Or are you looking for more universal parts?

Down payment

Some of you are already doing this, but for those that aren’t, or those that may be new to the upholstery business. Always, get a down payment. This is to cover the cost of supplies and a bit of your labor. Depending on the job, it varies between 25-50% of the job total. The reason I’m saying this n...

Yeah you don’t want to slap it straight on just cause your mad at it lol. It’s always a directional slap to get it to move. Although I had smacked a seat a time or too just cause it’s not playing nice.

1.5” is pretty thick for most standards. I would do what John suggests, or I’d think of a way to maybe sew .5” foam to get the look and then glue that to 1” foam. So you’re now sewing that thick.

I started to getting insurance through the state. It’s not the best if you have health issues or often use insurance. Knock on wood I hardly use it. But my wife decided to go out on her own also, so lost insurance for the kid. The wife is retired military, so has options for herself. I finally had t...

What @John said. Try to replicate what the factory did. If you do that and think it’s missing something to help with the filled look. I often use a synthetic cotton and lay it right on the seat making sure it doesn’t wrap around the seat back, so there’s no bulk. Don’t use real cotton. It’ll rot and...

Those turned out really sharp! One question, did you make sure the embroiderer used UV resistant thread? Most embroidery shops don’t use that on the day to day basis, for clothes and what not. I’ve seen a surge in other online groups of the colors fading out super quick.

 by Cody ¦  Sun Apr 12, 2020 3:41 am ¦  Forum: Automotive ¦  Topic: Pleats puckering on curves ¦  Replies: 6 ¦  Views: 5479

The reason they are doing this is cause they are sewn on a flat plane. When you wrap it, they want to crease in the bends. One way to possibly combat this is glue the material to the foam while it’s curved around the headrest. But idk how youd sew it with the curve still in it.
