It’s doable, but it’s also based on your speed and skill. It may not be that way at first but you’ll get there. I worked for 4 hours doing the Seats only on restaurant booths. Made $400 profit. I kept the seats an extra day just so it didn’t look that easy too. That’s half a day. Taking the old stap...
Dang those splines are twisted. Don’t see that too often. That 6.0 is a good motor to be running. Just put a 5.7 in a 55 I’m working on.
Usually with a lot of bulk on the backside, I like to go through before and and eliminate some of the overlapping material. No use sewing through 4 layers when you can cut some off and sew through 2. Might be able to even go and trim just some of the sew foam off the seam allowance to reduce bulk. O...
Are you using a generator for power? Where are you located? Warmer climate?
I agree with @john on this, measure the actual cushion size, sew it tight. Walk away.
Welcome aboard Other than SEM I don’t have much experience in dye, and with SEM it’s very little. I loved my juki LU-562 worked great and sewed through thick layers. It’s older now so may be able to get cheaper. The LU-563 is the next newer model and had the larger bobbin. I now use a consew rb1206....
I read and get a mental image of like a round cushion that slides over the poles in weight room equipment? Mainly for machines that you work your legs out on? Not the exact thing but is it similar in shape? I know those have a lot of folds and puckers on them? I would get the cord so it’s at its max...
I own a 39 Chevy truck but I chopped the top and it never had a headliner so I can’t picture the braces. Can you snap a photo and post it? I’m not totally sure abs will mold into the tighter back corners that well. You could possibly get the top area and the sides and around the back glass, but then...
Are you wanting to know how much more including the the seam allowance? I don’t do a lot of furniture, but when I do box cushions, I use the measurement of the cushion and add my seam allowance and that’s it. The dacron unless you’re adding a thick layer doesn’t had much but you want a tight fit to ...
Welcome! We’d love to see what you’ve done so far!
That sure is coming along. I have a 67 Chevelle that’s 10 years in and not nearly as far. Been through a couple moves with me to different homes and different states. But it’s my next project. I just did some Buick door panels and had to get different shapes into it. I copied the factory design just...
As long as you learn something from the next project, even if it doesn’t turn out like you wish, it’s still a good job!
This is something I plan on doing with my audi also. Shaving the seat belts and going with a harness.
Looks great. I like how you post your different ways of doing it and learning
Hard to tell but most I see are a woven material backing. This looks more like a thin cotton or fleece layers
Awesome! Thanks for the pics. I like the lowered seat area for more foam!
I like the cling wrap and tape idea! Never heard of it before but I can see me using it! Also, don’t worry about your english. I’m learning German I know the feeling but you’re doing great and easy to understand.
That’s awesome work! What foam did you use? Like density etc? I always wonder what works in full foam custom seats.
You are correct in your thinking. You want to cut them to shape, then sew them one. A flat piece sewn i. Would look horrible and full of wrinkles.
Thanks! Wasn’t sure if it was vacuumed or how you did it. Looks sharp though
