The problem with pre-sewn seat covers is they only look as good as the seat they are installed on. If your foam or padding is bad there is no seat cover that is going to look good... Or smell good for that matter. The secret to using an aftermarket seat cover is making the seat itself fill out and f...
It is good things are working out for you.
Generally your glue will not spray well out of a gun with a tip smaller than 1.8 and if you find one larger it will be fine. Harbor Freight was selling a siphon gun with a 1.8 for around $20 the last time I looked.

Marine trimmers place double faced tape in their seams before sewing canvas tops. That will provide extra water proofing.

I have been building street rods and mild customs for 50 years and I can promise you, unless you are building a pure sow car or garage queen, it will get rained on. I drove my 7 year project to a show 3 weeks ago with no top on it yet. A pop up thunder storm caught me. It just happens. I use PhotoBu...
A couple of thoughts here. First, I think masonite will rot just as fast as plywood unless it is tempered masonite. They do make it on 1/8 but usually has to be special ordered. Secondly, your open cell foam can absorb water. You mentioned that os what your supplier had but I suspect if you check wi...
I'm going to guess the dual toe foot he is describing is just his standard flat presser foot.

LOL. Welcome aboard!

I believe PVC would hold up. If you have doubts maybe putting 1/4" landau top foam on it would protect it from excess heat.

Not only will hog rings not hold the springs tight enough, they will leave sharp points in places you don't want them. I have, in a pinch, wrapped spring or border wire splices with baling wire tightly, though I don't recommend it.
John
Yes. That would not be a problem.

I think I might look into making that panel out of 16ga aluminum. The panel appears to be flat other than the roll at the top which could be formed in it.

At that price you can afford to try drilling out the cap some. Just be sure you don't go bigger than the needle... You will be in trouble. After all what, is the worst that can happen? You have to skip a night out to dinner to make up the forty bucks. I am in the states so cheap Harbor Fright guns a...
While my French is non existent it looks like the add says it is a 1.4 mm in one place and a 1.8 in another. For glue 1.8 would be best. It might be wise to double check the cap size though I have been told they can be drilled out.

I would take the tape off. Your machine does not need to be protected. It is built to take ten times the punishment you are going to give it for years. My concern is the bottom layer of material needs to slide freely so the feed dog can move it at the same speed as the top layer. If you add the fric...
That is referred to as a hog ring and is probably the single most common method of attaching seat covers.

@luis_upholstery My motor is a SewQuiet 5000. The speed control mechanism is behind the end cap of the motor. To open it up does not involve getting into anything electrical. I wish I could tell you if other brands are similar but I can't.

Stainless is forever! Galvanized is acceptable for furniture and auto but if you are doing anything that will see moisture stainless is the only thing to use. That includes convertible tops, patio furniture, etc, etc.

I took John's complete course back when he had a special on it but even if you never do anything but marine work, you will not regret taking the complete course. Example, You may never do a door panel on a car but his door panel course will teach you how to pattern a hard panel. How to use ABS panel...
The servo motors I am familiar with are controlled by an electronic eye. The foot pedal operates a "vane" which interrupts the light. The less light the faster the motor runs. I suspect your linkage may not be returning all the way, there is dirt blocking the light, or the vane has come lo...
@TedP Is giving good advice. A good used compound feed machine is a better investment any day than a new walking foot machine that does not have needle feed. I mentioned here recently, I started with a Walker Mini Brute 25 years ago and found out pretty quickly how much it limited what I could do. ...
That would be a lot of money for an old Singer wit[…]
