I use an air grinder with a 3 inch 80 grit pad. It works really well. I have Matco and snap-on air grinders but they are expensive. This kit on amazon is good Ive used these before. https://amzn.to/2LYpavp The disks are like this https://amzn.to/2lykp09 You need one of these also. 3M Relock Disk Hol...
Thanks @LeatherJohnny! All of you are capable of doing great work like that. It just takes a little time and practice.
You can try steam but or sanding them out before you wrap them. But honestly you just have to be really careful not to damage the foam before it gets wrapped.
so the problem is that when you wrap that piece with closed cell and then leather outside of the car its not in the correct shape. What it would do is remove the leather and foam and redo the panel while is installed in the car youll have to take it out to finish up the back side but the face will b...
Ive never had a situation where I needed to splice closed cell together but if i did I would glue the edges together and then carefully sand the seam nice an flat before covering it.
@kl4bidn Im glad you got it figured out! The door panels look awesome! The sew line are really nice and straight. I like it.
Haha yeah bed sheets will work That's pretty resourceful. Muslin is just a cheep light weight cloth material. Its nothing special.
@Revv Up I can understand your brothers point. Haha yeah those sound like some pretty strong magnets
Nice that looks awesome! I love sweet trash finds
Vicstric is spot on there. Only thing I do differently is once I get it rough cut with the knife I come back and smooth and shape the foam with a 3 inch 80 grit disk on my air grinder. Then I like to glue a piece of muslin over the repair area to add a little more strength to the repair.
That's a cool design Revv Up! Do you find that it helps keep your seam allowance more consistent? Do you remember what pound rare earth magnets you used?

Hey everyone! I recently finished up this project recovering a headliner in a 2006 BMW 325I with grey suede. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I made some in depth videos on how to do this yourself. I hope you like them. This process is the same for any car so don't worry to much if you want ...
