I personally have gotten by just fine my 1". I can see where the long nose would come in handy on some projects. I think they are more need when doing furniture. I do almost no furniture so I haven't needed one.
Glad to hear your back up and running!
Glad to hear you got it sorted!
Your making great progress! You stitches are looking really good Cant wait to see your future projects!
Wow! That is soooo cool! You did a fantastic job. I really like the center console.
Would you mind if we do a student shout out of you on our Facebook?
@JamesLey Where have you been purchasing the materials for your projects?
@Riwaka1 Have you tried Martrim out of the UK? Martrim.co.uk They carry lots of automotive upholstery supplies. Yes I agree! Ireland is one of the most beautiful places I have been. We actually almost got stuck in Ireland during the beginning of covid. We ere in Ireland when all the boarders got sh...
Hey @Sanne Welcome to the forum! Love the picture of your puppy dog! Yes a smaller pulley always helps reduce the speed and should also add more torque for when sewing really think material. I'm glad you have got it working to your satisfaction. However... On the servo motor you purchased there is a...
@Adam I'm really impressed with the results you are able to get with the machine you are using. I think with a walking foot and a steamer you work will be immaculate
Do a google search for "Plastic supplier" in you area. There are usually quite a few suppliers that mostly supply sign shops but will sell to any one. In California I used to by it from a place called tap plastics.
I don't do these very often but I know that many of the people that do restaurant seating full time charge by liner foot and the price per foot changes depending on the type of booth and type of fabric.
I do the same as @Revv Up if they complain about the price I just move on.
If your patient and keep you eye out on craigslist and market place you will find a good deal. Last year I picked up a really nice consew 226 for $250. Also think of it as a good investment. One customer project and it will have already paid for its self. Based of the work you are already doing it w...
Yep plastic is a good choice for automotive panels. I mostly use ABS sheet in my interiors.
Yep I do this all the time. Only thing is that the stitch will only as strong as the smaller size thread. However most of the time when your stitching with thick thread its for decoration not seam strength. Also running the smaller thread in the bobbin means changing your bobbin less often.
@Adam For your first project this is really good! I believe that the machine you are using is fight against you. You really need a walking foot for this type of work. Also do you have a steamer? Steaming your covers while installing them will help relax everything and get rid of a the wrinkles your...
Never done a cloth one before but if they are the same concept as a vinyl landau top it should be pretty easy. On landau tops you need to inform the customer that there is a high chance of the roof under the fabric top will be rusty and may need additional repair or need repainting.
I have never seen anyone do it that way. I assume that it would work. However I think that would be quite a bit more time consuming than measuring and marking with one of the many options available. White upholstery pencils are my favorite for vinyl.

@Mtl_Biker Old school clutch motors typically have more power than modern servo motors. That can be important if your sewing a lot of heavy duty things like very thick leather. The extra power isn't really important for auto / marine upholstery in my opinion.
Great video Malcolm! Yeah that about the only way I can imagine to fix it with out seeing the repair.
You might also be able to do a blind stitch repair
Cant go wrong with a BEA in my opinion. They will last you a lifetime.
Its like my buddy Tony always says "John. With tools you can either buy the best and cry once or buy cheep and cry every time you have to replace it"
