I have a 226r with a family 500w brush servo and a 1508nh with a brushless 600w consew style motor. The one on the 226 does not have near as good of control as the 1508. The 1508 can easily allow you to do one sitch at a time. Thought that my partially be that the pulleys maybe of different sizes but my personal preference is the consew brushless and if for any reason I would need to replace the motor on the 226 that is the one I would use.

The analog servo motor shown is great. However, the pulley on it is too large. Order a 40 or 45 mm from Toledo Industrial Sewing Machines, Bob will take care of you. One other way to help out is to remove the brake that is installed on that motor. When you step on the treadle, you have to overcome the brake which means the motor is running faster than you want, if you remove the brake it won't have to overcome it and it will ramp up much slower. I just removed mine last night and it makes a huge difference. Also, the dial is for the max speed, I have mine set about the third notch as shown in that picture, works great. You can also play around with the length of the arm that turns on the motor, longer arm will require more pedal movement but you will have more leverage which means you can feather it easier.
