I recently bought a secondhand Elna 2130 sewing machine from a woman who received it as a gift 15 something years ago but touched it only once. So technically it should be in great shape and I can tell that it hasn't really been used. But right after I started using it, I noticed many inconsistencies with the stitches. First, I had issues with the tension knob, being that no matter how much I turned it, the stitches looked the same. I look it to a service guy who just adjusted the lower bobbin tension and it seemed like it was working fine in the shop. But right as I took at home and started sewing again, I saw that the straight stitch was not very straight! I've read through the manual and rethreaded the machine several times, replaced the needle, checked the tension and everything seems fine! So I don't understand and it's really frustrating. What else could be causing this?? I would appreciate any suggestions!

Hi @dbadics ! I am not familiar with the feed system on this machine but it looks like the material isn't being fed straight. You might try a regular seam with a seam guide to get a straighter stich. As far as the tension, there are many youtube videos on thread tension and how to adjust it. Important to make sure when you thread the machine that the thread goes between the two disks in the tensioner. I am no expert but your crooked stiches should not have anything to do with the tension.

I may be just showing my ignorance but it looks to me like the zig zag mechanism is still trying to operate making the stitches almost zig zag in nature.

Just to show, how little I know about home machines, I don't even know it the stitch pattern is controlled by the feed dog or the needle feed. It just looks like the stitch is still slightly going side to side.
