Hello! A beginner upholsterer here trying to sprinkle life into some old chairs. I’d like some guidance as to the best way to refoam and re-cover a seat base that is concave. If the foam follows that profile, will the fabric follow too, or try to lift up in the ‘hollow’? Or, should I cut the top surface of the foam to a ‘flat top’? Many thanks

If you are using scrim foam on your cover material something you can do is use the top of the seat when gluing your foam to the fabric as a sort of forming block. Or take a couple blocks of wood one on each side so the foam curves. This will help the foam somewhat take shape like you want. You can also shape the cushion with a slight dip in it to give it the extra shaping you want. Just some ideas. Hope it helps.
