So I’ve been lurking around the forum as I had cell service for the past week just to read but haven’t posted as I only have so much data and didn’t want to burn it up.
Last week my wife, daughter, and I rode our peddle bikes in RAGBRAI. This stands for Registers annual great bike ride across Iowa. It’s a huge event we’re tens of thousands of people literally get on there peddle bikes and ride a pre-planned route across Iowa. It’s different every year so you don’t see the same stuff. I took an extra loop to get my century patch (100 miles in 1 day). I had over 500 miles with the added extra optional loops. I’m an avid biker and have had my bike for 9yrs now. I don’t feel any need to replace my bike as new bikes are expensive and this works great. Only thing is the seat is also 9yrs old and starting to tear and I’m sure the foam is shot. It’s a pretty aggressive road bike and the seats for this aren’t known for being thick or comfortable to start. I’m a glutton for punishment and like this style seat. So my question is as I have little foam experience. Has anyone ever worked with different layers of foam, maybe gel inserts or memory foam and been able to come up with a slim configuration that’s a bit more comfortable? I was thinking I’d buy a new seat but use my old as a frame and work with different options and just cover in vinyl. Appears to be what it is now. Or am I just wishful thinking.
