Hi everyone!

I am new to this forum, and I'm really excited to join this community and share my passion for furniture design and engineering with fellow craftsmen.

For my first post, I wanted to share a recent project where I worked as a CAD designer. As we all know, a proper Chesterfield chair requires absolute precision, especially when it comes to getting the frame geometry exactly right for the deep buttoning and rolled arms.

**The Design Process**
My task was to design and develop the entire frame structure using SolidWorks. I had to calculate all the angles, dimensions, and layout details digitally to ensure that the factory team could assemble it without any issues.

The physical frame was built using a combination of pine timber and 15mm thick plywood, based exactly on my 3D model blueprints. The factory team then handled the workshop assembly, foam mapping, and the final upholstery work.

Below, you can see my frame design/assembly photos and how the final factory chair turned out.

I would love to hear your feedback from both a design and upholstery perspective. If anyone is interested in how to approach Chesterfield framing in SolidWorks, let's discuss!

Also, please let me know if you like this format of sharing the design and development side of furniture making. Should I keep posting more breakdowns of my CAD projects here in the future? Your feedback will help me decide!

Thanks for looking,

Here is the general layout with the overall dimensions of the Chesterfield chair.

As you can see, the total width is 1115 mm, depth is 950 mm, and the total height is 785 mm. The seat width is 600 mm, and the seat depth is 650 mm.

This gives a clear picture of the chair's proportions. I am currently preparing the detailed step-by-step frame assembly drawings and blueprints. I will post them here very soon!

Here is the first part of the assembly drawings for the Chesterfield chair frame.

I noticed that after compression and converting to JPG format, some of the finer details, letter callouts, and dimensions might look a bit blurry or hard to read. Don't worry!

Please use these images as a step-by-step visual guide for now. There is still a continuation of the frame assembly drawings coming up next. Once I post the second part of the frame drawings, I will upload a high-resolution PDF file for download. The PDF will be fully vector, so every single line and dimension will be crystal clear.

Stay tuned for part two!

Thank you so much! That is a huge compliment. I spent a lot of time in SolidWorks trying to make these blueprints as clear, clean, and professional as possible, just like those classic woodworking plans.

As I mentioned, the vector PDF will be ready for download soon so you can have the crisp, full-scale drawings.
